Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Chamber Opinions are Being Sought on Town Issues Local and National
Government are now consulting Chambers on almost every aspect of town
life. This is a new
development, which may take some getting used to for some, but it is the
new way of things and it can only be to the advantage of the town. As a result of this new policy, I
attended a railway consultative meeting back in January 2005, which was
seeking views on the development of the Waterloo Exeter line. Your Chamber was the only body
east of Sherborne that was represented. It was pleasing to see that these
were recorded in the very glossy final report, which covered the whole
South West. I look forward to
the next meeting to see what they intend to do and the time scale. We have also represented the town
at a number of other meetings and seminars concerned with development and
help for businesses in the area. I must start by
thanking all those members who have funded its publication by
advertising. I have said many
times before that this is a unique little book which other Chambers would
like to emulate in their own towns.
It has two functions, one to publicise and list members – and only
members businesses and secondly to provide an easy read guide for local
services and organisations.
If you trade with a member then you are supporting the business
community of Gillingham
Website I am pleased to learn
that the Town’s website is being renamed under a more logical title of www.gillinghamdorset.com and will be updated
and improved. We hope that
these changes will make it more user friendly. Have a look and see whether your
business or organisation would benefit from being a
subscriber. Thanks I would like to thank the members of the Executive Committee for their help, hard work and dedication to the cause during the year.
