WALK FOR WARDS
People are being urged to sign up and help
local people in hospital by taking part in this year’s Stars Appeal Walk for
Wards on Sunday June 20 at Wilton House. Online registration is now open at www.starsappeal.org or an entry form can
be requested by calling the Stars Appeal office on 01722 429005.
The annual Walk for Wards started at Wilton
House, the home of Stars Appeal president Lord Pembroke, in 2007.
Walkers have since raised over £120,000 helping to
fund a variety of charitable projects at Salisbury District Hospital including the
Keyhole Cancer Surgery Suite, state-of-the-art treatment and diagnostic
equipment for premature and critically ill babies and additional facilities
within the new Children’s Unit due to open in December this year.
Whilst continuing to fundraise for projects
benefiting local people being treated in all areas of the Hospital, the Stars
Appeal has now launched phase 2 of its Caring 4 Kids campaign to raise £500,000
with which to create a dedicated children’s waiting and treatment area in the
Accident & Emergency department and a Family Accommodation Unit for the
parents and siblings of premature and critically ill babies.
The walk is suitable for people all ages and
abilities and participants can choose between a 3k or 10k route. Organisers are
predicting this years walk will be even busier than ever so are encouraging
people to get their entries in as soon as possible if they want to be part of
the fun.
Hannah Paye,
Fundraising Co-ordinator for the Stars Appeal said “Last year’s event had a
wonderful family atmosphere with over 1000 people of all ages taking part and
helping to raise a fantastic £47,000! We’re hoping people will help us to do
even better this year and would encourage anyone wanting to have a fun, healthy
day out whilst helping local people in Hospital to get involved.”
