Gillingham is an old Dorset town, with a long tradition of excellence, set at the top of the beautiful Blackmore Vale, nestled between Shaftesbury and Wincanton. Why not come and visit us?

Gillingham is now rapidly expanding yet still manages to maintain the best of Dorset quality of life whilst offering visitors, homeseekers, employers, and retailers excellent opportunities for their enjoyment or business success.

To find out more about this Dorset town explore our website and investigate why Gillingham is the place for you to visit, setup a new home, business or settle and educate your family.

The Chamber of Commerce, the Town Council and North Dorset District Council welcome you to Gillingham, Dorset.

A Royal hunting lodge at the time of King John, Gillingham has royal links going back many centuries to the times of King Alfred the Great - the evidence of which can be seen in the town's museum

Today the town is vibrant and growing steadily.  The interesting mix of local shops and national retailers will meet individual's needs - from single nails to exquisite gifts and pottery.
The town's development plan has attracted more big national retailers such as Focus to add to the Somerfield and, recently expanded, Waitrose stores in the town.

Local retailers manage to compete effectively and Gillingham's High Street is still thriving, with far fewer empty shop fronts than in many other parts of the country.
With good rail links to London and Exeter, giving ease of communication , and the A303 ten minutes away, access to Heathrow,  Gatwick, Bournemouth, Bristol or Southampton Airports is straight forward by either road or rail.

Excellent schools - both LEA and Independent- give our young people a sound basis which enables them to thrive personally and educationally.

Gillingham has much to offer those looking for a holiday, a home or to set up business(small or large)in the still mainly unspoilt north of Dorset.
Pay us a visit and see a part of the County of Dorset, Thomas Hardy would still recognise.
